My mom and I are really the close ones in our family, we’ve been through a lot together, we are both disabled I have had 4 major back surgeries with the 4th one rendering me disabled, it did not go as we had hoped it would. My mom I have to give he credit where credit is due. She had been through sooooo much in just

Cont”d:
One year in 2007″ . She is a Medical Transcriptionist for the one and only Major Trauma Centers here in Hawaii. Her dept. made up of about 20 – 25 transcriptionists they were basically told that their services will no longer be required. That the Hospital had decided to out-source the whole dept. So they out-sources all the transcription work to someone in Florida
who turned around and out-sourced the work to the Philipines and India. And all this was done with out any of the doctors knowing, and only finding out about all this now.
So now my mom was forced to take early retirement. Then while that is all going on my mom was in the middle of having gastric bypass done. Her medical that she had while she was employed there was paying for it, but now since they were all pushed and sent to the unemployment line the only way for the medical to keep paying for it, is she had to pay for Cobra insurance. now she is having to live off her pension to pay for her health insurance and her mortgage. So she finally had her gastric bypass and is starting to lose her weight. Then about 4 weeks post surgery her and I go to the store, well she gets out of the car but can not walk, I go over to her and try to help her and I notice her big toe on her left foot was a dark purple. ( Her whole toe).

So I take her into CVS medical clinic they have there in the store. and the doctor seemed more nervous and worried about it then we were. The doctor said we needed to get her to her doctor asap, well it was a Sunday and he has no office hours on Sundays. so my mom could not get her shoe back on her foot so I took my sandles off an put them on her and said lets get you to the E.R. she said we need to stop at home first, I’m like for what, she said we have to get you some shoes or slippers I said I’m not worried about it I can go barefoot it doesn’t bother me. So took her to the E.R. where they did a venous doppler on her it came out fine so he writes a perscription for percocet and tells her to follow up with her doctor, well we do and now her doctor orders a arterial doppler to be done, well the soonest she was able to get in is 5 days. So here we are again 5 days later and my mom is having the arterial doppler done. Now the Tech calls all the family together to give us the results of the test. My mom has a blood clot in her artery that is about half a foot long, which being in the area it is in behind the patella ( knee cap) it tells us that it was not thrown from the heart. but that it is still very dangerous, because as it comes down that artery branches off into 2 more and what has happened as it was coming down it tried to branch off into the other 2 and blocked all 3 now…

Now remember this still is the year 2007″!! so re-cap she loses her job had to have gastic – bypass due to her diabetes and now having to deal with a blood clot in her left leg. So they admit her into the hospital and put her on warfin an some other blood thinners. she was there for about 4- 5 days then sent her home with instructions of complete bed rest… well after a week home her foot really started hurting her and was turning purple again. So she was admitted again and this time they were going to try a TPA. to bust through the blood clot. Well you would figure that if you can’t bust through this blood clot by the 3rd or 4th time, that should tell you that this is not a new or fresh clot. That it has had to be there for a very long time, Like as in the last 10 years that my mom has been complaining to her doctor about the pain and the sharp pain that shoots up the left leg and shoots all the way up her hip and into her back, and what does her doctor say, ( wellllll uummmm i don’t know, what do you want me to do. I guess your just going to have to live with it.) But back to the TPA. well by the 7th time he was able to bust through it a little bustthe particles that busted away didn’t dissolve like they should have. Now they just flowed down a little more and blocked again. So they decided to do a arterial by-pass which should only take about 5-6 hrs. Well after 8hrs the doctor came out to talk to us about the chances of the bypass working that it was a 50-50 chance of it working and by the look on his face told me that it wasn’t good. The nurses were very wonderful in the recovery room it was 1 nurse to 1 patient, but since we all worked there in the O.R. my mom got special treatment.
