E! News confirms Kim did not give a formal reason for the split aside from the ever-popular and all-encompassing irreconcilable differences. But she did take time out to break her silence on the split and release a statement to E! News, explaining her decision to file for the quickie divorce.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” she said. “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

Kardashian cited “irreconcilable differences” in court documents filed in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. The filings list the date of separation as today (October 31).

Kardashian’s close friend Ryan Seacrest confirmed the couple’s divorce on Twitter, writing: “Yes @kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning. I touched base with her.”

The couple tied the knot just 72 days ago in a a $20m fairytale wedding in Montecito, California in front of other members of the Kardashian family, Seacrest, Lindsay Lohan and Eva Longoria.

Kardashian will reportedly be represented in the divorce proceedings by attorney Laura Wasser, who has previously aided stars such as Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Ryan Reynolds. She has asked that the couple split attorneyss fees, but will not be seeking spousal support from Humphries.

An insider has claimed that one major reason why the couple split is that they couldn’t decide where to live following their wedding. Humphries reportedly wanted to move to his home state of Minnesota, while Kardashian hoped to settle down near her family in LA.

The reality star previously suggested during an interview with Jay Leno that both she and Humphries signed prenuptial agreements prior to their wedding.

Rumours of a possible split were fuelled last week, when Kardashian admitted that living in the public eye put a strain on her and Humphries’s relationship.

Kardashian later said that she doesn’t let media speculation on her love life upset her, and also insisted that she and Humphries always try to make time for one another.

Her first marriage to music producer Damon Thomas also ended in divorce in 2004.

Reps for Kardashian and Humphries haven’t yet commented.

The couple have been dating since last Winter and announced their engagement this past May after Kris proposed in romantic style; spelling out the infamous question in rose petals. It’s been no secret that marriage has been on the agenda for Kim for quite some time even proclaiming that she had everything for her own dream wedding picked out during the broadcast of sister Khloe’s wedding episode in 2009 despite being single at the time.

Kim and Kris will cement their love for once another when they reportedly wed in a $30 million mansion close to Santa Barbara in Montecito, California. Kim will wear a custom creation of infamous wedding dress designer Vera Wang who is also a close family friend. The bridal party will apparently wear green according to Kim’s older sister Kourtney but later reports suggested that they will wear ivory instead. The guests invited to the wedding, that has been reported to include Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, have been asked to dress in black and white attire.

Fans won’t feel left out as the wedding will broadcast on the E! network in a two-part special titled: ‘Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event’ and will air on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m with the second part airing the next night on Monday, Oct. 10 at 9 p.m.

E! also gave the following synopsis about the forthcoming television event: “Follow the bride, groom and entire Kardashian clan every step of the way, from the lavish wedding planning to the fabulous parties to the highly anticipated big day when Kim and Kris say ‘I do.’”

UPDATE: Images emerged of Kim and Kourtney leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in Santa Barbara earlier today. Kim was wearing a white Juicy Couture tracksuit with ‘Mrs. Humphries’ embroided on it.

BREAKING: Kim and Kris Humphries are now man and wife. Kim’s rep confirmed to People magazine and E! that the couple are now officially Mr & Mrs in a lavish ceremony whose guest list consisted of Demi Lovato, Vera Wang, Mario Lopez, Mark Ballas, Eva Longoria, Kathy Lee Gifford, Brit Gastineau, Brody Jenner, Avril Lavigne and Lindsay Lohan.

As stepfather Bruce Jenner walked her down the aisle, Kardashian, 30, donned an ivory custom-designed Vera Wang gown with full tulle skirt, basque waist and hand-pieced Chantilly lace appliqué on the bodice and train. She wore Guiseppe Zanotti shoes.

The groom, 26, sported a made-to-measure white peak lapel tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants with white tuxedo shirt and white bow tie – all by Ermenegildo Zegna – and the couple exchanged rings by Lorraine Schwartz, who also designed the engagement ring.

The bride was joined by sisters Kourtney, 32, and Khloe, 27, who served as her co-maids of honor. Younger sisters Kendall, 15, and Kylie Jenner, 14, and Humphries’s sister, Kaela, were bridesmaids. The ring bearer was Kourtney’s 21-month-old son, Mason Disick.

All the groomsmen, including the bride’s brother Robert Kardashian, wore matching black peak lapel tuxedos, white tuxedo shirts and black silk bow ties, again all by Zegna – who also dressed fathers of the bide and groom, Bruce Jenner and William Humphries, in matching black peak lapel tuxedos, white tuxedo shirts and silk bow ties.

For later in the evening, Kim planned two more changes, both Vera Wang ivory dresses, with a Judith Leiber clutch.

The first was a Georgette mermaid gown with hand-pieced Chantilly lace appliqué on the bodice and a skirt with hand-cut organza petals intermixed with Chantilly lace motifs and organza sprig embroidery.

The other Vera Wang dress was a bias-cut crepe back satin gown with V-neck and circle skirt.

At the reception, the groom changed into a black peak lapel Zegna tuxedo, white tuxedo shirt and black silk bow tie, to match his groomsmen.

While in New York, Kim and Kris will reportedly have another celebration to mark the occasion of their wedding, in New York which is said to take place 10 days after their nuptials tomorrow. The party is said to be hosted by celebrity wedding planner Colin Cowie and media mogul Jason Binn.

They later celebrated at an intimate engagement party planned with the help from Momma K, Kris Jenner herself.

“I didn’t expect this at all,” Kardashian, 30, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview (out Friday) of the romantic, surprise proposal. “I was in such shock. I never thought it would happen at home, and I never thought now.”

Humphries popped the question with a custom-designed, 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond sparkler. “I just knew I wanted it to be big,” says Humphries, 26, who, with the help of Kardashian’s mom Kris Jenner, planned an intimate family celebration later that evening.

“Kris really didn’t want a big celebration, but he had jokingly told my mom he’d be fine if there were mini-horses there,” says Kardashian with a laugh. “Later that night at the party, my mom brought out two mini-horses, covered in glitter, for us! It was hysterical!”
